International Federation of Kidney Foundations

International Federation of Kidney Foundations     Official website at  www.ifkf.net

Kidney Health Australia has been a proud Council Member of the International Federation of Kidney Foundations (IFKF) since its creation in 2000 and has done much to help it grow since. This enables both organisations to both benefit from and contribute to, the experiences of the international global kidney community.

The IFKF is a not for profit organistion staffed only by volunteers. To help it fulfil its mission financial contributions and sponsorship funds to help support its important work are always welcome.

The IFKF Membership Register now lists 66 Council Members, representing and this team effort is a strong force to bring a global focus to the prevention and treatment of kidney disease.

The IFKF's Vision

The Mission of the IFKF is to foster international collaboration and exchange of ideas between local kidney foundations and not for profit organisations to enable and help empower local membership organisations to improve health, well being and the quality of life of all individuals at threat from kidney disease.

The IFKF Mission Statement

  • Advocacy for improved health care delivery
  • Highest possible outcomes of care
  • Facilitation of education programs for and from member organisations
  • Promotion of research into kidney disease
  • Fostering an environment of open communication and exchange of ideas among organisations

  • Act as a global voice on kidney health issues

The Inventory of IFKF Member Resources  This unique resource is maintained regularly, and offers full contact details for all of our IFKF Council Members - kidney foundations, patient groups and kidney organisations.  It details member organisation websites (where available) and lists various kidney health education resources produced by each organisation.

  • It is a handy reference list for health professionals globally who need information for patients who speak English as a second language and notes all major publications and resources which these organisations produce.
  • Dialysis patients wishing to travel will also find this handy, as it enables direct contact with each organisation as you will need to find out local information when travelling overseas.

World Kidney Day is a global health awareness campaign focusing on the importance of our kidneys and aims to reduce the frequency and impact of kidney disease and its associated health problems worldwide. World Kidne Day is celebrated globally every year, on the second Thursday of March. This global kidney health day encourages everyone to learn more about their amazing kidneys and to raise awareness of the fact that that kidney disease is common, harmful and treatable.

This global event is a joint initiative of the
International Federation of Kidney Foundations (IFKF) and the International Society of Nephrology (ISN)
The next World Kidney Day will be held on Thursday 10 March 2011.
