The health education books and publications listed here cover a range of kidney-related conditions and treatment. Many publications that we publish are available to download for free via the links indicated. 

If you wish to buy a book or publication, you can order and pay online from our online shop. You can also order resources by downloading our Resource Order Form. Follow the instructions and fill out the Resource Order Form online, save the completed form, then send the completed form to us. You may also choose to print this form, enter the order in your handwriting, then send fax it to us, or scan and email. Please note that overseas orders are not taken, but you may download any document from our site free of charge.

'My Kidneys My Health' Handbook and App

 'My Kidneys My Health' handbook

 The 'My Kidneys My Health' handbook focuses on helping you to understand your kidney disease. It also provides information about how you can take control - you can make lifestyle changes to slow down any future kidney damage.

This handbook also lists many useful contacts and supports that can help you through your journey with kidney disease.

 The My Kidneys My Health handbook was kindly supported by a grant from the John and Thirza Daley Charitable Trust who provided a Perpetual grant.


‘My Kidneys My Health’ mobile phone app

Our handbook has also been recently released as a phone app. It contains the same information as the handbook, but in a more interactive format and with direct links to all support services and resources.

This portable version could be handy when explaining to family and friends about kidney disease or about the healthy lifestyle changes you wish to make, after your diagnosis of kidney disease.

The app is now available from the App Store for iTunes and Google Play Store;  ”My Kidneys My Health”.

'My Kidney Cancer, My Health' Handbook

 ‘My Kidney Cancer, My Health’ is designed for people diagnosed with advanced kidney cancer and their carers. 

‘My Kidney Cancer, My Health’ focuses on helping you to understand advanced kidney cancer and its treatments. It also provides information about how you can take control – how to look after yourself physically and emotionally.  The chapter on support offers information on how other people in your life can help you and you can help them.

This handbook also lists many useful resources that can help you through your journey with advanced kidney cancer.

 Back on the Menu: Recipes for a reduced potassium diet

Our 'Back on the Menu: Low potassium recipe book'  provides easy to follow recipes developed for people who need to control the amount of potassium in their diet, particularly those with kidney disease or those requiring haemodialysis, who have been advised by their doctor to follow a low potassium diet.

The authors stress that recommendations for renal diets vary widely between individuals - this recipe book is best used in conjunction with dietary advice from a dietitian experienced in renal nutrition.

Bush Tucker in Kidney Failure and Diabetes

This book is a helpful guide about eating Indigenous foods when you have chronic kidney disease and diabetes, especially when living in remote home country. It provides the nutritional breakdown of many Australian Indigenous foods, including animals (such as walleroo, kangaroo, possum), insects (such as moths, witchetty grubs, ants) and native fruits and vegetables, commonly known as bush tucker. 

This resource can be used to develop a renal diet using bush tucker ingredients. It is designed to support a health professional who needs to explain that when you have sick kidneys, a special diet can slow down kidney failure and limit the build-up of waste products and fluid in the body.

'The SANE Guide to Good Mental Health ' for people affected by kidney disease looks at associated mental health problems, treatment options and offers case studies of people who have experienced CKD and how it impacted on their lives. CKD can affect every area of life - relationships, work and how we socialise with other people may all be affected.

Initiative of Kidney Health Australia and SANE Australia who joined together to address the issue of mental health and kidney disease - 50% of Australians with CKD are affected by depression.

Moe's Sick Kidneys

'Moe's Sick Kidneys'  is an informative illustrated book for children four to eight years old, especially Kidney Kids. Moe has sick kidneys and takes his friend Milko on an adventure to tell him what it’s like. Milko thinks Moe is very brave living with sick kidneys, having his blood cleaned and taking care of himself.

This book has been produced in collaboration with occupational therapy students Veronica Edwards and Catherine Tonks from the University of South Australia.

Starting dialysis is a significant challenge for anyone; children in particular find it very hard to understand. This charming book uses drawings to help make it easier to tell the story of the practical day-to-day problems faced by a family when a parent begins dialysis.

Where's your kidneys Mum explains why dialysis helps kidneys to do their important work in the body, so children can better understand chronic kidney disease and its treatment.
