Organ trafficking

In Australia, State and Territory laws criminalise the removal of organs for the trade or sale of the organs, where there is no consent for the removal of the organs. Organ trafficking into, out of, and within Australia is illegal under the Commonwealth Criminal Code.

Kidney Health Australia supports the Declaration of Istanbul on Organ Trafficking and Transplant Tourism, which includes condemning the practice of buying and selling organs for transplantation and other illegal activities related to transplant tourism.

Kidney Health Australia's Organ Trafficking and Transport Tourism Position Statement was published in November 2013. You can read our full Organ Trafficking and Transplant Tourism position statement here.
