Mark Colvin Scholarship

The Mark Colvin Scholarship has been set up to offer either entry level journalists, or those from non-traditional journalism backgrounds with a demonstrated passion for journalism, the opportunity for professional development.

It aims to promote a broad knowledge of the technical and editorial skills associated with reporting across all media platforms, a commitment to quality research, to accurate reporting and to excellence in storytelling.

Each year the Scholarship winner will have the chance to work with leading practitioners of their craft, through placements in strategic areas of the ABC, as part of a cadetship program.

How the Scholarship Operates

The Scholarship aims to promote a broad knowledge of the technical and editorial skills associated with reporting in all media, a commitment to quality research, to accurate reporting and to excellence in storytelling.

One novice journalist is offered the opportunity to develop these skills and attributes in a number of ways, for example through:

• the assistance of an experienced professional mentor
• the opportunity to experiment in a range of techniques
• the opportunity to work in depth on an agreed story
• the opportunity to work in new environments

The Scholarship is for 12 months, depending on the activities undertaken.
