Big Red Kidney Bus - Victoria

Noel with the Big Red Kidney Bus

Due to the circumstances surrounding COVID-19, Kidney Health Australia have taken the advice of our clinical partners in our Bid Red Kidney Bus program; Monash Health in Victoria and Royal Northshore Hospital in NSW, to withdraw operations for the bus for the remainder of 2020.

Kidney Health Australia will continue to work with our clinical partners and site locations to resume the buses’ services once the restrictions are lifted.

For over a year, Noel has been receiving his dialysis treatments at Coburg renal unit.  However, it wasn’t until his daughter Nicolina came across the Big Red Kidney Bus program at the renal unit that got her thinking.  In secret, Nicolina and her siblings organised with Kidney Health Australia’s Big Red Kidney Bus team and the renal unit her dad’s dialysis treatments on the Bus so that she could surprise her dad with not just a get-away to Lakes Entrance but also the surprise of having the immediate family there to create fond memories.

Just like Nicolina and Noel, the Big Red Kidney Bus makes it possible for families living with kidney disease to vacation and spend quality time together.

There is a hydraulic hoist on the Bus, therefore, we are able to accommodate people with wheelchairs. However, you need to be able to transfer from the wheelchair to the dialysis chair unassisted.

Dates and locations are subject to change under extenuating circumstances.

Please read the admission criteria before you book a haemodialysis dialysis chair. In Victoria, Monash Health provides the clinical and medical aspects of the Big Red Kidney Bus and will confirm bookings once the admission criteria has been met.
