Our Community Research Hub aims to connect researchers with our kidney community so we can achieve better outcomes in research.
Kidney Health Australia strives to bring the kidney community's voice to research in a more coordinated way to translate community needs into research priorities.
Kidney Health Australia has created a Community Research Hub to reflect voices of a kidney community. We aim to publish research factsheets, establish kidney research register, provide training to people living with kidney disease and their carers, and create database that can match kidney community needs to the research.
If you want to participate in kidney research, please scroll down to the listings at the bottom of the page.

About clinical trialsPaCE CKD is a multi-country market research study conducted in the UK, Egypt, Italy, Mexico, Taiwan, Germany, Australia and the US. The main objective of the study is to determine patient and carer preferences for CKD treatments and to understand burden of disease in terms of quality of life, financial burden and work productivity. The study has been reviewed by an international Institutional Review Board (Pearl IRB) and has been granted an exemption for a full review due to its low/negligible risk nature. For Australia we are looking to recruit 100 CKD patients in dialysis and 50 informal carers caring for CKD patients in dialysis. The method of data collection is a 30-minute online survey. In appreciation for participants’ time and participation, we will provide a reimbursement of AUD 35 with a bank transfer. The survey results will be published – sharing patient preferences and the burden of CKD. Ready to participate? If you are a patient on dialysis, please use this link: https://survey.confirmit.com.au/wix/p936996995871.aspx?source=KHA If you are caring for a patient on dialysis, please use this link: https://survey.confirmit.com.au/wix/p825409087177.aspx?source=KHA Want to learn more? Learn MoreWe are conducting a vital research study to understand patient experiences, preference of treatment and needs in living with kidney cancer to potentially transforming kidney cancer care, ensuring future generations of kidney patients benefit from the advancements made possible by this study.
Learn MoreHere at the University of the Sunshine Coast, we are currently conducting a clinical trial that could really benefit some of your members. This trial will evaluate the safety and efficacy of an investigational treatment for hypertension in participants with Chronic Kidney Disease Stage 3b.
Learn MorePaediatric medical specialists including nephrologists can now order funded genomic tests for children with certain clinical presentations. This change aims to help more families receive timely, accurate diagnoses more quickly as they can access testing without having to have an appointment with a clinical genetics service first. My PhD is finding out about the support families need when genomic testing is delivered by paediatric specialists like nephrologists. We want to develop ways of measuring this so health services can know if they are doing a good job. This work will ultimately help health systems enhance the care families receive when genomic testing is indicated.
Learn MoreCurrently, most people starting peritoneal dialysis, or PD, begin with the full treatment schedule, which is a commitment of 24 hours a day, 7 days week. The STEP-PD trial will explore whether starting PD with a personalised, reduced schedule, leads to better quality of life, including improvements in pain, energy and social activity levels. We'll be asking consumers to review a draft Participant Information & Consent Form (PICF) for this trial-in-development, for their opinion on how clearly written and informative it is. They will also be invited to share their ideas on how the PICF might be improved so that potential trial participants can make a genuinely informed decision about whether to take part. Consumers will also be asked for their opinion on having potential STEP-PD trial participants provide their consent online.
Learn MoreWe are conducting a study to understand the factors that influence users’ preferences for various designs of adaptive features in mHealth applications, particularly for people managing chronic conditions. The goal is to explore what aspects of adaptive user interfaces are most important for users.
